Bridgit Mendler Auditioned for ‘Sonny with a Chance’

Bridgit Mendler auditioned for the role of Sonny in Sonny with a Chance and although it was given to Demi Lovato instead, the execs at Disney knew there was something special about this girl.
“Bridgit is a great example of … us finding somebody, knowing that we wanted to do business with her and then waiting to find the perfect role,” said Gary Marsh, chief creative officer and president of entertainment for Disney Channels Worldwide.
If you’ve read our exclusive interview with Bridgit, then you know that she sent in a tape for the role she got on JONAS, starring along side Nick Jonas.
She said, ‘I first started off by acting on JONAS. I sent in a tape for that and I was very excited to get picked. I did a couple of episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place. Then they brought me in to audition for Good Luck Charlie. I did a chemistry read with Jason [Dolley] for a little while and then I ended up getting the part. I was so incredibly excited. I was jumping up and down and screaming. I was just so happy to get the part.’

Exclusive Q&A with Bridgit Mendler

J-14 chatted exclusively with Bridgit Mendler, star of the new Disney Channel Original Series, Good Luck Charlie, about working on the show, playing games with Jason Dolley, and showing her nerdy side.

Good Luck Charlie premieres tonight at 8:30 pm on Disney Channel.

J-14: You worked on Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, which just won Favorite Movie at the Kids’ Choice Awards. What was it like to beat The Twilight Saga: New Moon?
Bridgit Mendler: Very, very unexpected. I was totally in awe of that. That’s incredible!

J-14: Are you excited for tonight’s premiere of Good Luck Charlie?
Bridgit: I’m so excited. We’ve been working on the show since August and to have it actually come about for everyone to see is so weird. We’re all really excited!

J-14: What’s it like on set? Do you all get along?
Bridgit: Oh yeah, I think even at the very beginning we all clicked and we all enjoy each other’s company. We have a lot of fun on-set traditions, like our dad on the show, Eric Allan Krammer, likes to cook for us and we have dress-up day on Tuesdays, which we haven’t been keeping up with recently, but we’ve had some really good dress-up days.

J-14: Are you friends with co-star Jason Dolley?
Bridgit: Oh yeah, Jason’s great! He’s like a brother to me, and we have a lot of fun on the show. We like to play a lot of games. Jason is incredible at games, so he beats everyone at every game. I beat him at Boggle the other day, so I’m pretty proud of that.

J-14: What do viewers have to look forward to with Good Luck Charlie? What do you hope they take away from it?
Bridgit: I think they can spend some good family time together watching a show that I hope they enjoy. It’s nice that it’s a show that relates to people on a real level, and I hope that people can appreciate the experience and that they laugh along with all our little mishaps.

J-14: Would you say that you’re a lot like your character, Teddy?
Bridgit: In some ways I am. I like being nerdy like Teddy and I think she has a lot of great energy. I’m totally a nerd! I don’t deny that for a second. I think in that way we’re the same, but I think she’s a bit more of a perfectionist then I am. She wants everything to go exactly how she planned and I think I let loose a little bit more than that.

Bridgit Mendler talks ‘Good Luck Charlie’

You may know her as Juliet from Disney’s hit series Wizards of Waverly Place, but Bridgit Mendler will be front and center in the young Hollywood spotlight, as she stars in her new Disney television series called Good Luck Charlie (Premiering TONIGHT on Disney at 8:30pm). We had the opportunity to talk to Bridgit, who chatted about her new role, as well as what it’s like being in the Disney family!
Bridgit stars as Teddy in Good Luck Charlie, along side Jason Dolley who plays her brother. “It’s about this family of 5 who has another child, and the parents have to go back to work so the kids have to help out with the baby, and all sorts of chaos ensues.” Bridgit said. “It’s been really fun to do.”
Bridgit even revealed that she often relates to her character, being a teen girl. “I’ve had a lot of fun with some of Teddy’s more nerdy moments – I’m kind of a nerd myself, like in one of the episodes Teddy had to be a bad dancer which I had some fun with, got to give her some nerdy dance moves and just little stuff like that where Teddy isn’t as cool as she might seem.”
With the premiere happening tonight, Bridgit is super excited for people to see what she’s been working on. “I’m so excited! It was so surreal for me to actually become part of the Disney family, and I’ve been watching Disney channel all my life so it was just so crazy to actually become a part of it.” She confessed. “We’ve been working on the show since the end of August last year, and now things are gearing up for it to be released, and I’m so excited for everyone to actually be able to see what we’ve been working on.”
Even though Bridgit is good friends with the rest of the cast, she did say that she would love to have her real life friends join her on screen in an episode! “I’ve already had one of my really good friends guest star, so that was awesome to have her on the show. I would love to have my best friend on the show. She’s visited a couple of times, but she hasn’t actually been on it.”
“Generally we do live audience episodes and it’s really cool.” Bridgit said about filming the sitcom in front of a live studio audience. “What definitely puts me at ease is having all my lines memorized. If I don’t have my lines memorized and I go out there in front of the group of people, and I mess up, it’s kind of embarrassing. I wanna have all my lines down so I know what I’m doing in the scene, and I’m ready to go. “
Be sure to tune in to Disney tonight at 8:30pm to watch the show! Brigit also appears on the Disney Mania 7 CD, where she sings When She Loved Me. The CD is in stores now!

Jason Dolley: Bridgit Mendler’s Honey Hoax

On the premiere episode: “There’s the romance between Teddy (Bridgit Mendler) and Spencer (Shane Harper). We don’t know what’s going to happen with them but the goal is to get the first kiss. We’re all anticipating it, but if it doesn’t happen between them, you never know what could happen further down the line.”

On the pranks pulled on set: “There was one that I was not a part of. Bridgit and Bradley [Steven Perry] got one of guest cast good. They put honey on his the handle to his dressing room door. Then they put honey on the sick faucet and all over the paper towels. So everywhere he went to de-honey himself, he just ended up getting more honey.

On his favorite thing about the show: “I think it’s just the whole package of it. It’s a family show which I think people will enjoy watching with their whole family together. Even the setting on set is very much family oriented. We have two families — one off set and our new one on set. You can see on screen that we’re very family oriented and we really do feel like a real family. That’s really important to the show.”

Jason Dolley talks about Bridgit Mendler

Jason Dolley caught up with JustJaredJr.com to chat about his lovely costar Bridgit Mendler, if he’s thinking about branching into music and the GLC theme days. Check it:

On working with Bridgit Mendler: “Bridgit is really, really friendly. Her room is like the hangout room for everyone that works on the show. Everyone is always in her room, especially at lunch. She sets the tone for the set — she’s outgoing, super friendly and I love that [about her].”

On his favorite theme day: “We have lots of traditions, like theme days. Once a week, we’ll have like cape day, hat day, robe day. My favorite is cape day, which was our first ‘theme.’ It was born out of coincidence actually. Bridgit, myself and another friend had gone to Six Flags over the weekend and we played this carnival game where we got capes. We decided to wear them to set as a joke and everyone had looked at us like, ‘We didn’t know it was Cape Day.’ After that, everyone got really into it and it was really cool because one, we got to wear capes all day and two, it spawned the theme day tradition.”
