Bridgit Mendler talks ‘Good Luck Charlie’

You may know her as Juliet from Disney’s hit series Wizards of Waverly Place, but Bridgit Mendler will be front and center in the young Hollywood spotlight, as she stars in her new Disney television series called Good Luck Charlie (Premiering TONIGHT on Disney at 8:30pm). We had the opportunity to talk to Bridgit, who chatted about her new role, as well as what it’s like being in the Disney family!
Bridgit stars as Teddy in Good Luck Charlie, along side Jason Dolley who plays her brother. “It’s about this family of 5 who has another child, and the parents have to go back to work so the kids have to help out with the baby, and all sorts of chaos ensues.” Bridgit said. “It’s been really fun to do.”
Bridgit even revealed that she often relates to her character, being a teen girl. “I’ve had a lot of fun with some of Teddy’s more nerdy moments – I’m kind of a nerd myself, like in one of the episodes Teddy had to be a bad dancer which I had some fun with, got to give her some nerdy dance moves and just little stuff like that where Teddy isn’t as cool as she might seem.”
With the premiere happening tonight, Bridgit is super excited for people to see what she’s been working on. “I’m so excited! It was so surreal for me to actually become part of the Disney family, and I’ve been watching Disney channel all my life so it was just so crazy to actually become a part of it.” She confessed. “We’ve been working on the show since the end of August last year, and now things are gearing up for it to be released, and I’m so excited for everyone to actually be able to see what we’ve been working on.”
Even though Bridgit is good friends with the rest of the cast, she did say that she would love to have her real life friends join her on screen in an episode! “I’ve already had one of my really good friends guest star, so that was awesome to have her on the show. I would love to have my best friend on the show. She’s visited a couple of times, but she hasn’t actually been on it.”
“Generally we do live audience episodes and it’s really cool.” Bridgit said about filming the sitcom in front of a live studio audience. “What definitely puts me at ease is having all my lines memorized. If I don’t have my lines memorized and I go out there in front of the group of people, and I mess up, it’s kind of embarrassing. I wanna have all my lines down so I know what I’m doing in the scene, and I’m ready to go. “
Be sure to tune in to Disney tonight at 8:30pm to watch the show! Brigit also appears on the Disney Mania 7 CD, where she sings When She Loved Me. The CD is in stores now!

Family Channel welcomes its newest addition, Disney Channel’s GLC!

TORONTO, April 21 /CNW/ – Astral Media’s Family Channel proudly introduces Canadians to Good Luck Charlie – a sitcom for the whole family that revolves around what happens when a new baby joins the Duncan household and roles shift for everyone in the family. Family Channel will air two back-to-back episodes of the Disney Channel comedy series Good Luck Charlie beginning at 7 p.m. ET/PT on Friday, May 14. The regular timeslot for the series is Fridays at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

In Good Luck Charlie, the Duncan family, including teen siblings PJ and Teddy and tween brother Gabe, welcomes their newest addition, Charlie, and the many adjustments she brings to the household. Charlie’s soon sitting up, crawling, walking and running – requiring the kids to team up and help their parents, Bob and Amy, look after the cute little newcomer. In each episode Teddy creates a personalized video diary for Charlie, an older sister telling her baby sister about all the things she’ll help her learn as she grows up, including how to withstand the household and deal with friends, boys and school.

Good Luck Charlie stars Bridgit Mendler (Wizards of Waverly Place), Jason Dolley (Cory in the House), Bradley Steven Perry, Leigh-Allyn Baker (Will & Grace), Eric Allan Kramer (My Name Is Earl, The Hughleys, Robin Hood: Men in Tights) and newcomer Mia Talerico as Charlie. The creative team includes several network sitcom veterans led by series creators Phil Baker and Drew Vaupen (Suddenly Susan and What I Like About You), who also serve as executive producers with Dan Staley (Cheers, Love & Money).

In the premiere episode, Study Date, airing Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m. ET/PT, Amy is fretting as she returns to work, but Bob reassures her that they have a support system to care for Charlie. That is until Teddy is distracted by a study session with a cute classmate, PJ tries to have a jam session with his friend, Gabe acts as though his territory has been invaded and Bob takes a tumble. This debut episode is currently being previewed on Family OnDemand.

In Baby Come Back, airing Friday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, Teddy encourages Amy and Bob to go on a long overdue date while the kids babysit Charlie. When PJ takes Charlie to the park, he accidentally swaps strollers and babies with a cute girl.

Leading up the introduction of the Duncan family, Family presents family-themed episodes of Disney series Wizards of Waverly Place and JONAS beginning at 6 p.m. ET/PT on Friday, May 14.

Bridgit Mendler & Victoria Justice: The Next Big Things

You may already know who Bridgit Mendler and Victoria Justice are…but get ready for them to be the next big things.

In an article posted by AP, the two teen actresses are highlighted along with their new shows and their rise to stardom.

Bridgit, who auditioned for the role of Sonny on SWAC (back when it was still Welcome to Mollywood), now has her own show, Good Luck Charlie, after guesting on Wizards of Waverly Place.

Gary Marsh, president of entertainment for Disney Channels Worldwide says, “Bridgit is a great example of … us finding somebody, knowing that we wanted to do business with her and then waiting to find the perfect role.”

Victoria, also 17, now headlines Victorious on Nickelodeon. Creator Dan Schneider shared, “You could tell from the first five seconds of the tape … she was just meant to be in front of a camera.”

Teens on verge of stardom

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Get ready to meet Bridgit Mendler and Victoria Justice, the two biggest stars the world has never heard of – at least that segment of the planet that excludes anyone outside the ages of about 8 and 14.

But among that increasingly coveted “tween” demographic, the one that made superstars of Miley Cyrus and Zac Efron, Justice and Mendler’s career arcs have been steadily rising for years.

Mendler, as almost any kid with a TV knows, was the cute vampire who dated David Henrie’s socially inept wizard on “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Justice was the equally cute upstart rival to Jamie Lynn Spears on “Zoey 101.”

Now the two 17-year-olds are getting their own Sunday night sitcoms, Justice in “Victorious,” which debuts at 8 p.m. EDT this weekend, and Mendler in “Good Luck Charlie,” which airs just a half hour later and had its debut last weekend. And if the past success of their respective networks’ star-making machinery is any indication (Disney for Mendler and Nickelodeon for Justice), both are poised to be kid TV’s next big thing.

Mendler’s character on “Good Luck Charlie” is determined to videotape every significant (i.e. comical) event in the life of her newborn sister, Charlie, while at the same time juggling typical teen problems like annoying brothers, overly protective parents and flaky boyfriends.

“Victorious” meanwhile, puts Justice in a performing arts high school whose wacky student body (populated by several young Broadway theater veterans) is capable of breaking into song and dance whenever the mood strikes.

The show’s creator, Dan Schneider, says he began grooming the actress for just such a breakout role the moment he saw her audition to play second banana to Spears on “Zoey 101″ nearly five years ago.

“You could tell from the first five seconds of the tape … she was just meant to be in front of a camera,” said Schneider, creator of such hugely popular kid shows as “Drake and Josh” and “iCarly.”

At rival Disney, the feeling was the same when a 14-year-old Mendler arrived to audition for “Sonny With a Chance.” The role would go to another tween idol, Demi Lovato, but Mendler wouldn’t go unnoticed.

“Bridgit is a great example of … us finding somebody, knowing that we wanted to do business with her and then waiting to find the perfect role,” said Gary Marsh, chief creative officer and president of entertainment for Disney Channels Worldwide.

There seems to be a wealth of TV tween stars at the moment, raising the question is there room for two more. The Jonas Brothers have their own eponymous show, Miranda Cosgrove has become nearly a household name on “iCarly” and so has Selena Gomez on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” their images plastered all over TV, on lunch boxes, backpacks, even the sides of buses.

But that doesn’t mean networks like Disney and Nickelodeon can ever stop cranking out new kid stars, says media consultant Jonathan Taplin. The obvious reason: they grow up, as Cyrus, in her last year of “Hannah Montana,” is quickly doing.

Some of them sometimes also cause embarrassment, as Spears did when she announced she was pregnant as the fourth season of “Zoey 101″ was beginning. Or when a nude photo of Vanessa Hudgens surfaced on the Internet when she was starring opposite Efron in the “High School Musical” movies.

“They have to have backup,” Taplin says of the networks. “It’s the farm team. You give someone a supporting role in a series and if they’re good they eventually get to be the star.”

To prepare them, Disney puts them through something it calls Talent 101.

“We try and give them a kind of lay of the land of how their lives are about to change and what things they have to watch out for,” Marsh says, adding the seminar advises them on security precautions they might take and how to behave in public and in front of the press.

Not that looming stardom seems to have had much of an impact so far on Mendler, who can appear self-assured beyond her years one moment, while discussing something like acting, then revert to a wide-eyed innocence when talking about getting her driver’s license.

Likewise, Justice remains sanguine. “It’s kind of surreal that I’m even sitting here now, kind of looking back on my past story,” she says during a moment of reflection on the set of “Victorious.”

Yes, she acknowledges, carrying a TV show is a big responsibility. But, hey, she’s had other challenges in her life.

“I graduated high school!,” she shrieks with delight. Then she raises her arms and adds, “YAAAY!”
